New Setup using T5

Hi,
I'm planning a new planted aquarium of 36 X 12 X 18 with all sort of plants.
I would like to know what you think about T5?
I want to use them over my tank but I'm not sure how many
of them I need. Pendants exist with up to 8 of those T5 !
Sounds to me like being overkill !
What do you think ?
