]Hi! I got recently got a really nice 8lb Live Rock, man life half of the rock is purple when I first brought it home. Now few days after I bought it, Alges are taking over some of the purple part. Man! I just got my package of C-Balance that has Strontium, buffer, calcium, magnesium and elements. Will that bring back the purple-ness? How can I recovered my beautiful rock before?

Poeple told me to get some Hermitt Crab and Shrimp to keep the balance of alges. MAN!!!!.....

a couple hermits and snails may help. The algae grows because there are nutrients in the water, what are you using for source water (straight out the faucet? RO? etc.) and are you feeding the tank at all?

red slime

My tank is a 75 gallon reef that has been set up for 4 years now.It has about 100lbs. of Fiji live rock in it,many SPS coral frags and currently only 2 molly miller blennys along with a large janitor crew of snails, crabs, starfish and cucumbers. There is lush caluerpa growth and halimeada also. The lighting is 4 VHO 48" f.s. bulbs and 2 48" actinic. These lights are on 12 hours with the VHO only on for 8 hours. There is a skimmer and 5 different size powerheads for movement as well as an old power filter that i occasionaly use to put carbon in.I drip 4 gallons of kalkwasser a week with RO/DI water and do water changes with filtered water from the Gulf of Mexico.(I also work at a public aquarium)About 2 months ago my tank has become covered with red slime and by the end of each days' lighting schedule all surfaces are covered with air bubbles.I have tried siphoning off the growth and it only returns .The tank has very good corraline growth and the macroalgaes are pruned back weekly. The SPS corals are also growing well, the water conditions are PH 8.1,no Phosphates but i think my test kit is old and may not be accurate, the Nitrates are also low.Calcium is usually between 380 and 420.Any help or advice would be great!!
