Howdy all,
I started a 10-gallon tank with java moss, a temple plant, light amounts of hornwort, and some sort of grass whose name escapes me right now. I have a Pen-Plax FL 15 Aquarilux fluorescent bulb with a 15-25w-starter plug. I have very small grain, plain gravel substrate. Comparable to the size of half to a fourth of a pea. Please excuse any redundancy. I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about aquarium horticulture.
I am starting to see spot algae but this is not a problem. I did notice a light reddish-brown fuzz growing on the Temple Plant. (Any suggestions there?)
I digress. I was wondering if the setup I have is sufficient to grow those plants well and if there was a way to increase the wattage of the starter plug or lights themselves.
I also noticed when I finally found a true SAE and placed it in the tank after careful acclimation it refused to eat anything. I have zebra danios and cory catfish so it shouldn't be too stressed out. It's content to lay on the temple plant's leaves and observe the other fish from its vantage point. Will it start eating or should I consider throwing in spirulina tabs?
Thanks a million times over. I’m trying to get a hold of a larger tank, but a college student’s budget can only get stretched so far!
Btw, the aquarium is by a window but the good news is that I can shade it. The roommates don't mind darkness as you would all assume of students.
I do 20% H2O changes weekly.
