I have had this beautiful big goldfish for three years and a couple of days ago it developed a lump on its right side near its tail. It has got larger and now looks as though it has blood behind it as there is a red tinge. Can anyone help me as to what is wrong and how can I help it.
He may be constipated. Try feeding him an occasional boiled, shelled pea and cut back on his other feeding for a few days.
EDIT: Oh, and you might have more luck in the General Coldwater (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26) forum.

Thanks for your reply, I wondered if that might be what it was, Do you know why they would get constipated?

Find your posts in the coldwater forum, but I also wanted to add that it could be a female... the female could be egg bound. Is one side of her stomach larger than the other side (from looking down the tank)?

Thanks for your replies. The lump finally came to the outside of the body and I took the fish to our local aquarium place, the guy there squeezed the lumps and all this pus came out and also some worms!!!! so I am treating it for that. So far so good, the wound seems to have healed a bit so am keeping my finger crossed that the fish will be OK. Can anyone tell me how they get worms? By the way, I am also treating the tank for worms. Have removed the infected fish.

Further to my previous post, I found one of the black moors (I have 2) was hassling him, so have taken him out of the tank again, I wonder when I will be able to return him as I don't think his has enough room in the bucket I have him in (don't have a spare tank). Please help.
