Don't turn the filter off. FIlters need to run 24/7.
Your airstone you can turn off.

don't turn anything off. You can get some filter floss to make a prefilter if you are worried that they will get sucked up. Also I would be more worried that the other fish wil eat the babies. add some hidding spots, some plants for the babies to hid in or remove some if you can.

A few other members (myself included) stuck a piece of filter foam over the filter intake. I took an extra AC sponge, made a slit in the middle and pushed the intake tube inside.

You can turn the filter to a lower setting for a day or two if the current is fairly fast in the tank.
The AC sponge over the intake is a great way to prevent the fry from being accidentally sucked into the filter, and it only costs about $1.69!
even without covering the intake most fry, even very young ones, can outswim the current.
