Hello,
I've recently planted my 45g tank and switched to CF lighting.
There's fertilizer, CO2 and good lighting on the tank, so the green algae's moving in, starting to settle on the tank walls and the plants' leaves.
I have several ghost shrimp in the tank, and I bought an albino bushynose pleco (about 1.5") yesterday, but other than the picking that the platys/swords do, s/he's the only real algae eater in the tank right now (and I don't see the BN making much of a dent in what's there, but s/he's pooping green so s/he must be eating algae when I'm not looking!).
Can anyone tell me how many algae eaters and what type they'd recommend?
I'm partial to otos, but lately I've had really bad luck with them - just lost a bunch a while ago (before plants went in, may have been changes in city tap water during the summer months). Would it be a good idea to get several bushynosed plecos? I've heard they're the greatest algae eaters for keeping planted tanks algae free, but they sometimes squabble when they get older. Would my BN get along with a bunch of otos?
Opinions about other types of catfish/algae eaters are welcome as well. I don't really have any interest in Chinese algae eaters or flying foxes, since my tank is very peaceful and I've heard they can be obnoxious when they get large, and they don't eat much algae.
Thanks for your help.

I usually would put in one pleco.

If I was doing ottos, I usually go 2.

Ottos like groups.

It may take longer for one fish to clean your tank but it will have more food and grow bigger.

I would try several ottos along with your pleco.

Through a couple of farlowella cats in there if you want something interesting to look at that eats algae. I have 3 in my 125 and they munch algae and look awesome.

Ottos are a good choice, I would probably get 5-6 of them for a 45.

I have two SAE's and both have gotten fairly large, but I don't have any trouble out of them.

Another great fish is the flag fish. You want to talk about eating hair algae? These things slurp it up like spaghetti.

Thanks guys,
I guess I'm okay with just one BN and that's what I wanted to know more than anything else... I am going to take a look online for flag fish though, you've got me intrigued!
