I wouldn't suggest putting fish back into "muddy" water, no.

However, if you rinsed the sand thoroughly, you should be settled out within a few hours, up to a day. If you "forgot" to rinse, drain out the water and rinse the sand...

How much suspended sand is in the water? If you can still see pretty well through the tank, I'd say it would be okay, but not optimal, to put the fish back in their home.

In the meantime, put an airstone in the rubbermaid to keep the water moving and provide oxygen to the fish. That should help tide them over until their newly redecorated home is ready... If you can, put your filter in the bin, too (if you've got a canister, this should be easy enough... not so for a hob)....

yeah, i have HOB, but I also have a few powerheads, shoudl I put those in there, or just an airstone

The more oxygen the better, so yeah, I'd go ahead and put the powerhead in there.. Oh, and Go Blackhawks!! :)
