I would like help with data for my article(Here about fish size and nessasary tank size.

So if you have an adult Oscar, Angel, Severum, Blue Ram, Endler...

Could I get you to list the body length, width and hight, of your fish and what tank it is in/should be in.

also for adittional reference is it alone or with tank mates of what size giving the same information if possible for all the tank mates.

I could look through the tank specs forum and pm some people requesting the information but I thought I would give you a chance to volunteer first.

I don't want to just give the formula for the new 'rule' without putting it through some examples so as to conect it with our expirence and not just leave it a mathematicle model.

Do you have access to the out-of-print Complete Idiot's Guide to Freshwater Aquariums? Mike Wichham did a great job on setting standards based on fish mass. Check libraries and used bookstores. It was quite well-done overall, even if I do not agree with all his techniques and ideas.

I don't have it and would have to do some searching to even know if I could find it localy, but I'll attempt to find one as any prior use of a volume based fish size per gallon would be enlightening

I hope you don't mind my correction, in the article you print 1/3LWH then say "one quarter the LWH". At least I think Thats what it says. There was a post regarding the 1" per gallon rule. I've always been told it was cubic inches, not lenght (untill this site) in the rule. I'd never tested the theory but feel a mature fish would be the best to test. I also posted that I felt larger fish would be better to use because the inaccuracy of fractional inches. Being that I do not have them I won't be of much help, but if it pleases the court, my biggest is L 5 1/2" H 2 5/8" W 1 1/4". Like I said about the fractional inches, its hard for me to get an accurate measru on him. But I hope it helps some.

thank you for catching that discrepancy, I originally asumed that the final equasion was the 1/4 but something bothered me and i did some more calculation and found the error which resulted in the 1/3 being put in its place, forgetting to change what followed.

I probably will have to ask some specific people about thier fish since I know who has what based on what is talked about and the tank specs forum

yes it was my intention to get measurements of adult fish for the tank recomendations list

I know for adult oscar I have seen recomended 75 gallons and up but that doesn't tell me what volume that adult oscar will reach to draw conclusions about mass/volume of the fish to volume of water nessasary... I might find that it is still dependant on the fish. but I was at least hopeing to find a range of acceptable total fish mass to gallonage
