Me and my fiance are wanting to start trying for a family soon.
I have a few fertility problems so as we have been trying for 6 months (not long i know, but there were other problems) we went to the doctors.
I'm so peeved off!
I have just found out that when I do eventually fall pregnant I will have to inject  myself with a blood thinner drug called Heparin (though not sure if thats how its spelt!) every day!! :thud:
I had a really bad time a while ago with quite a serious illness. I had blood clots in my lungs so the risk of this happening again when i am pregnant will increase hence the injections.
I want a baby so much and will do this to keep myself and my baby healthy but sometimes it seems as if i get all the bum deals health wise. :sad

Is there anyone here who has to inject themselves daily? (ie diabetic?)
I will cope cos i will have to but argh!!
Anyway, thanks for letting me blow off some steam.
You guys are the greatest! :)

Oh I'm sorry to hear that! I guess it could be worse though. I'm sure it'll all be worth it when you have your child in your arms. Are pills not an option?

I'm pretty lucky myself. So many of my friends have a variety of health problems, but the worst I've got is an alergy to peanuts and the remnants of a childhood case of asthma.

I would think they have some pill alternatives. A lot of those drugs come from snake or spider venom because of the anti-coagulants in them.(just thought that was interesting) I will keep you in my prayers, and hope you are successful.

Thanks cgrabe and gonefishin.
No there is no tablet alternative.
When i have been in hospial heparin was only given in injection form.
But, as you said, it will be worth it when I have my baby in my arms.

I know quite a few people who inject themselves daily, but I dont think they're the kind of people you want to ask for advice.

My cousin had to inject daily during both of her pregnancies but for a different reason. Her blood and her husband's had some sort of major difference that caused her blood to attack the baby. The only option for the child's survival were daily injections. She said it was hard at first but she soon got used to it.

Her kids turned out fine.
