View Full Version : Congo Tetras
Anyone have any comments on congo tetras? I really like them and I'm thinking of adding a few to my 40 gallon. I know they can get big, so is 40 gallons enough for them?

I would say 40g isn't large enough, at least not in the long run. Since they'd need to be kept in a group, it would be best to have a large, long tank to house them comfortably.
Ok cool, scrap the congo tetra idea! Man, I NEED a 300 gallon aquarium to have the fish I want!

A 40g tank should be fine for a school of 6-8 congos. They only get ~3" long...A *few* sites list 5" but I have never seen any much more than three and Im inclined to think that 5" is the wild max.

Ah, my mistake, I had it in my head that they reached at least 4" or more and I just couldn't see a group of 4-5" fish being comfortable in a tank around 3' long.
They're gorgeous fish, if they'll work in a 40g I say go for it!
