I just watched the movie yesterday night. . . I don't know if it's just me, but I still can't really find the point of the movie, and why it was even based on a true story. . . Just out of curiosity, are all you Americans really that "involved" in football? ? Cause in my eyes, the movie was TOTALLY over exagerated... I could be wrong, but I just find it unbelievable how the sport football was such an unbelievable influence in those American towns....

I'm not at all dissing anyone, I'm just tryin to figure out if it can be true, that people stop their lives for the sport. . .

All in all though, I thought it was a pretty silly movie.. Too much drama, people crying, I don't know. . . I wish I could elaborate, but I don't want to be a movie spoiler. . . If anyone who'se seen it would like to clarify something, you can PM me..

Football means A LOT in Texas. Its not the same through out the US. Some regions get very serious about even high school football while others could care less.

Not everyone, but IMHO high school football is really big in the rural areas of the US. I can remember going to stadiums to play and their whole town was there to watch the game. I feel this was due partially to not having anything else to do on a Friday night. To these people, this is a real big deal.

Now college football is a whole other reason. It is more of a regional thing. This past weekend we had the Florida - Georgia game. The fans sold out the Jaguar Stadium with some 80,000 people. Then add in all the people that just go to the stadium to tailgate. This is why this particular game is dubbed "the world's largest cocktail party". They close off city blocks down town just to party.

In my highschool, our hockey team was way bigger than our football team (flocks of fans, parents and people who had nothing really do to w/ the school goes to the hockey games). The football team was big, but nothing like in Friday Night Lights (from what I've seen of the commercials - haven't seen the flick).

But yes, in some towns it IS just like that movie! :)
