I run a fluval 304 on my 55gal with carbon/biomax/chempure in the bottom/mid/top. Just looking to get other opinions and/or suggestions on what everyone likes or dislikes to run and why.

On my Fluval 304 I have prefilter then two layers of biomax. I also have a fine layer of filter floss on the top layer of the biomax. I have a Fluval 204 in the same tank (75g) but it's purely mechanical.
I've not used carbon in a long time. Unless I need to remove meds or similar, then I see no use for it.
