Eat right! Make sure you get your daily dose of fruits and veggies.
Take your vitamins and bump up your Vitamin C.
Get plenty of exercise because exercise helps build your immune system.
Walk for at least hour a day, go for a swim, take the stairs instead of the
elevator, etc.
Wash your hands often. If you can't wash them, keep a bottle of
antibacterial stuff around.
Get lots of fresh air. Open windows whenever possible.
Get plenty of rest.
Try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can.
OR .... take the doctor's office approach: When you go for a shot, what
do they do first? Clean your arm with alcohol. Why? Because alcohol kills
germs. So......
I walk to the liquor store (exercise), I put lime in my Corona (fruit),
celery in my Bloody Mary (veggies), drink on the patio (fresh air), get
drunk, tell jokes, and laugh (eliminate stress) and then pass out (rest).
The way I see it, if you keep your alcohol levels up, flu germs can't get
you!!!!

GEL, I'm surprised at you...You left out the biggest factor! People who have frequent, close contact with children have higher infection rates. Bars won't allow kids in, making them one of the safest places to be!

I thought liquor store was only a good place to go for ghosts, and for them only if they have backed into a fan.
Because that is where they retail spirits

how many people actually get the flu?
does this just affect old people and babies?
I've never gotten a flu shot, hell I never even go to the doctors for anything.
Is this really that big a deal that people dont get these shots?
The world is plenty over populated as it is...

ROFLMAO @ snake!!
I got the flu shot once, and got the flu that year anyways!!
Seriously.... antibacterial soap, lotions, and wipes are bad, bad, bad to be used on a daily or more basis. My doctor said that antibacterial stuff is by far the worst discovery/invention ever because your body has to get used to germs in order to effectively fight them. On the surface it doesn't make sense, but I have since seen it proven...
My friend's daughter is 3-years old, she was born prematurely at 29 1/2 weeks, so needless to say my friend had to be SUPER careful about germs (RSV is the leading killer of preemies). She got SO into the habit of using the antibacterial lotions and wipes (everytime she walked into the NICU she'd do it, which on a daily basis when your baby is in there, you're in and out at least 10 times a day). Well that habit has stuck w/ her ever since... she uses this stuff all the time, and uses it on her daughter. Since her daughter started visitations with her dad (he is in the military and didn't see her for the first year of her life), she'd come home from every visit with a cold -- because the dad didn't use lotions and wipes on everything she touched! I have never used anti bacterial lotion or wipes w/ my son (don't even own any of that stuff) and he has had way less colds than my friend's daughter -- and he's in daycare (daycares = cootie breeding grounds).
*vent over... I hate antibacterial*
sorry to hijack your thread GEL!

My wife the nurse won't let antibacterial stuff into the house. Interestingly, she used to get sick all the time. Whenever ANYTHING was going around she came down with it. Now that she's working in a hospital for a bit she never gets sick. Germs aren't all bad. :)

Actually, no it doesn't just affect old people and babies, it affects anybody who has a poor immune system, take my mother for instance if she comes within 10 miles of somebody with the flu or a cold or whatever she gets it, she always has, it is just her immune system that acts up, there is no other reason for it. My 11 year old son has inherited this trait from my mother he gets near the sniffles he gets it but in his case the distressing thing is that he gets a mild cold, his immune system mutates it and gives it back to the world as pneumonia, bronchitis, he gave my mom shingles when he was exposed to chicken pox. So do I want this kid to get sick heck no, when he gave the household pneumonia it was horrible, I really feel bad for my patient's when they come in with pneumonia, it hurts to breathe, I unfortuately learned this from having it myself thanks to my son. So do I get the flu shot every year even though I have never (knock on wood) had the flu myself, you bet your bottom.
As for your statement about over population............think of it this way alot of people who get the flu end up in the hospital, some do not have insurance and our tax dollars pay for it, so a free shot at the health clinic for these people or a couple thousand in hospital bills........I will let you do the math by the thousands of people who get the flu if they don't get the shot

I presume you've heard the one about alcohol keeping your brainpower up, too.
In the same way that when lion hunt wilderbeast in the Serengeti (or wherever it is this activity occurs), the lion will always catch the weakest and, therefore slowest, of the wilderbeast. This means that the overall speed and strength of the wilderbeast herd is maintained at a higher level.
If alcohol kills your brain cells, surely it kills the weakest and slowest first. The brain (apparantly) has the ability to reproduce cells fairly rapidly. Therefore, surely alcohol makes you more intelligent?

I must clarify my statement (because I'm anal like that, hahaha)
I DO hate antibacterial stuff, but I do have some... on the rare occassion I take my son on the subway I rub the lotion on his hands and mine when we get off, and also when we go to Disney World I take them with me. Only because he's only 2 and is always putting his hands in his mouth and doesn't realize the nastiness that's on the subway railings, rails in the lines at D.W. etc and we always have snacks and stuff with us (cheerios, cheeze its etc)...
But other than that, everyday germs are good for you (for both of us... I take the subway to work every day and I never use anti bacterial stuff. But then again, I don't put my hands into my mouth for no reason :D)
