View Full Version : I need a gift idea...

Alright... My Significant Other and I have been together for almost 3 years. The anniversary is coming up rather quickly and I'm more or less stumped for ideas. I've given him handmade sorts of things for other occasions like CDs, etc.
Any ideas - and I mean ANY - would be awesome. Either something I could make or something I could buy. Like I said, I'm just utterly stumped. Usually I've got ideas like crazy, but not lately :-S
A huge thanks!! from a baffled girlfriend :)

if your looking for a sentimental gift i dont know how much we can help, and seeing that we dont know what he's like, i dont know how much we can help.
give him a fishtank?
maybe you can make your own fishtank for him, its not too hard (i made my frogs tank)

*sigh* He'd love a fishtank, but he's out of town A LOT, and when he isn't away for work he's at my place, ~2 hours away. So unless there are fish that don't need feeding/cleaning for 3 weeks, that ain't an option.
He works outside for his job and its pretty tough work, lots of tree cutting, hauling gear, etc. He really likes what he does, being outside, in nature and all that. Basically, because of me he's out here. He wasn't able to get a job in the same town as me when I got my job, so he got hired on with a company based a 2 hours from here. The plan is that in a couple months, when his apartment lease is up, that he'll try and get a job here, so at least when he's in town we can live together. Umm what else...?
BTW chunks - I like that last line in your sig - AMEN! lol

That gift would sure work for me. :D
Does he have any hobbies that he enjoys or things he likes to do when he is out of town? I travel a lot of of town also, so my wife bought me a laptop a year ago.

maybe some power tools. Even if a guy isnt into building stuff, he'll like power tools. Owning powertools is confirmation that your a dude, no guy will ever turn down powertools
or you could get him a wheel to a car and say "each anniversary you get a new part"
all jokes aside im sure he'd be happy just to spend the day with you, gifts dont matter that much
ps
yeh, i really do hate the"import scene". I have an interesting story about it, ill post it later

How about a fine custom knife or a nice American made factory knife?? I'm not pushing mine, due to my backlog but there are a lot of custom makers out there with very nice knives, ready to go.
I would be glad to provide you with links to reputable purveyors and makers.
How about a mp3 player that holds thousands of songs?

Some really good ideas :) thank you! Last Christmas I assembled a 'Survivor' themed gift, and part of it was a Leatherman multitool, so perhaps I'll hold off on the knives. He's got a laptop already. A powertool of some sort is cool, ditto for an MP3 player. He loves my iPod. He's definitely a gadget guy, lol
As for the outfit, lol, thats a given :p
What about a GPS or something for camping if he's outdoorsy?

I would suggest 2 gifts, one functional and one gadget. You said he works outside so i would suggest a Camelback (http://www.camelback.com), its like a backpack but has a bladder that holds liquid. The liquid is dispensed through a tube that when bitten releases the liquid. I have a couple that i use when i bike long distances, very very useful. For the second gift i would say an MP3/video player. Very handy for long trips in the car or on a plane.
Of course i've always been happy with my SO just putting a bow on herself and calling it good. ;)

Thanks for the great idea.... my DH's birthday is coming up and I thought he had every hunting gadget imaginable until I saw those backpacks. ;)

Still more or less stumped, but laughing now :D
The man has more gadgets and gear than he knows what to do with. He's got a camelback for biking already, and he's got every camping/biking accessory known. He'd love the GPS :D But I'm already thinking of that for Christmas. Anywho, he uses mapping grade GPS (think of a little handheld, but on 'roids - millimeter accuracy) for his work.
So for now, I think gadgets are out.
But a huge thank you!! to those who replied with their ideas :D Just perhaps a little out of my paying-off-student-loans budget for now.

If he's really into camping and such, what about a good book on local hiking trails? Or for an area you know he wants to visit? It's amazing how much more I've enjoyed hiking since I started getting books on the area to go through first. You get to find out so much of the history, and can identify the 'must-see' things more easily.
Other option--magazine subscription? Lots of recreation oriented magazines out there, with lots of cool info: where to go, gear reviews, etc.
Another thing I know is popular: Annual park passes! Makes it cheap to go have fun for an entire year.

Since you're from BC, you should take him to Saltspring Island, or the West coast of Vancouver Island (Tofinos really nice).
He sounds like an outdoorsy kind of guy, so maybe a hardcore expidition would be good.
Is Blacktusk too easy? I guess the Chief would be too easy as well.
What about the Harrison hike? It takes 7 days, one way. Or theres a ton of week long hikes through the mud on the island.
