I've taken to bringing ear protection if I know I have to be very close to speakers that will have the volume turned up. I still can hear the music, and I get to keep my hearing. best of both worlds

Good idea!
When I was in college, one of the non-trad students had been a roadie for Motley Crue. He said at one concert they spied a really drunk girl with this huge grin on her face standing right by the huge speakers (think he said they were 8' tall or so). Blood was trickling out of her ear.
Needless to say, they got her out of there fast!

What an AWESOME Concert... New Found Glory opened up, and I must say, they sucked. . . Greenday really had the fans going.. They have such an original sound, it was really cool. At one point they got people from the crowd... They brought up a bassist, a guitarist, and a drummer, and made them play for a bit, while the singer sang. It was a fairly simple riff, but it was cool . . He (the singer) actually gave the kid his guitar...
They REALLY got the crowd into it...
One thing though, for all you americans, I'm pretty sure that the band didn't vote for Bush this election. Might have been the "F*%k George Bush" they were chanting at the opening of the concert. Later they went on to say that their album is NOT anti American, but it IS anti war.
Anyway, if you guys get the chance, you should definately check them out!

Sounds like a great show. Unfortuneately another band that needs to shut up and sing. :( I guess if I only listened to bands that I agreed with politically, I'd be limited to Ted Nugent

I'm going to see Velvet Revolver again tonight in Birmingham! My camera phone got some rain on it or something so I wont be able to take anymore pics, which sucks.
I used to listen to Green Day when they were first getting started but I kinda got lost interest a few years after they became fairly popular. I can still get into a few of their older songs. I hate it when bands get all political like that. Who cares, just play some f'in music! After all, your paying them to play not to tell your their political stances.

I suppose you're not the biggest Rage Against The Machine fan.. ;)

I would love to see them. The Pink Floyd song "Money" they did for the Italian Job soundtrack is incredible. I just hope they can all keep it together and put out more music!!!

I saw one of my friends at the show last night and he was talking about how good the Green Day concert was. He said they played for like 3 hours or something.
BTW, VR was way better this time. There was no way I was making it to the front this time. I made it about halfway and people were so close together they stoped letting us through. I think they must have played for 1 1/2 hours, at least. I can't even remember all the songs. I know they did several GNR songs.

Rock Star Politics
Alice Cooper: Anti-Bush acts treasonous morons
Legendary shock artist: 'Rock should never be in bed with politics'

Alice Cooper
Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper calls rock stars campaigning for Democrat John Kerry treasonous morons.
The 56-year-old Cooper says he was disgusted to learn the likes of Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, James Taylor and Dave Matthews were hitting the road for a series of concerts designed to help defeat President Bush.
"To me, that's treason," Cooper told the Canadian Press. "I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics."

True. You know whats funny, I don't know if he has been doing this all over or what, but he is DJing at a local radio station in Muscle Shoals now. Every week night at 7 or something on 105.5 The Big Dog. He might be doing it from somewhere else, but he answers calls and emails from people around here. It's hard to believe he is around here.
Go figure.
Edit: I guess he is doing this all over. I just did a search on google for it and this is what I found.
He also has a radio show that you can catch if you are in any of the following areas:
KDKB 93.3 Phoenix, Arizona
WGMO 95.3 Shell Lake, Wisconsin
WNHI 93.3 Belmont/Laconia, New Hampshire
WIBA 101.5 Madison, Wisconsin
KZEL 96.1 Eugene, OR
KRZZ 96.3 Wichita, KS
KKBX 101.9 Fargo, ND
KTUN 101.5 Eagle/Vail, CO
WVNA 105.5 Muscle Shoals, AL
WRQR 104.5 Wilmington, NC
KYJT 100.9 Yuma, AZ
KARX Amarillo, TX
KURK Reno,NV

Greenday has the rep for kickin live shows.
Hard to beat them. Be great in a tiny club packed with people like old days of punk.
VR is a neat band, I like their new take on good hard rock.
As far as music and politics, better get use to the mix.
Vietnam brought out a lot of great stuff.
I think Iraq will as well.

They were at the Voodoo Fest. I was wanting to go down there and check them out but I would have to drive straight back after it was over so I could take a test the next morning. Do they have a new album out or are they just touring?

Well- Metallica wiped the floor, wrung me out, and hung me up to dry. Two and a half hours of exhausting bliss- the old boys still have it. I hadn't seen them since '97 (also in '86 and '92) and was worried they had slowed down. They were even better than last time- I guess sobriety works. We nearly got flash burns on our faces from the pyrotechnics. My throat, hands, and feet still hurt. Awesome, awesome band.
