View Full Version : Froggy (ADF) question

I was thinking of getting a pair of ADFs in a week or two. The plan is to target feed them with a turkey baster. My question is - I'm going home for Christmas for roughly a week and a half. Can froggies last that long without food? I'm sure my fish will be fine, but I don't want to come home to dead frogs. If that length is too much, I'll put off getting the frogs until after I get back. I've considered getting a friend or coworker to feed, but I can't see any of them thawing out bloodworms and turkey-basting them to the frogs, lol.
Anyway, sorry for the rambling post. I think I know the answer, but I'd like some backup :D

How old are they? Lots of weight on them? I'd suspect that juveniles, or ones that aren't fattened up would have a problem going without food for that long, but healthy, chunky frogs can probably handle it. My african clawed frog is a chunky girl, and she can easily go 10 days without food--but she doesn't like it, and literally attacks my hand the first time I go to feed her after a long fast.

I haven't gotten the frogs yet, but most likely they'll be young'uns. I think I'll wait until after my holidays

Yes, adults would have been fine, but due to the low fat index on the young ones (which are starved while at most pet stores) they'd be very close to dead when you got back.

How do u tell the difference between the frogs that will get big and the ones that will stay small? (small enough for a 10g)
Also, will frogs go with betta's?

You just gave me a great idea for feeding my ADF- I bought two types of worms, but they both float... So I'm gonna get one of those little hinged black and metallic paperclip things, and tie some unflavoured dental floss to it... Pinch the worms in the clip, and lower it down to my frog.

Heh my paradise fish are greeeeeedy. My dwarf frog spends most of the day in hiding, and so it's hard to tell if he ever gets anything to eat. This way I can drop the food right to his corner of the tank, and he won't have my paradise fish helping themselves to his food.
that'll have to do until I can find some sinking frog food...
