I currently have a freshwater tank and Im looking to have a saltwater tank also. I have never done salt water before and was looking for a few good references as to how to get started. Any links or advice would be helpful..thanks

There is a really good FAQ right here on Aquaria Central:
http://www.aquariacentral.com/faqs/reef/

One of the very first things you will need to do is come to some idea of what you want to keep. The two rather broad categories are "fish only" and "reef" which means it contains corals.
If corals are indeed in your future you will need to decide on what types you want (main categories "softies", "LPS", and "SPS") before you purchase your lighting. Lights will be one of the biggest expenses you run into, so you don't want to pay for more than you need but also don't want to have to buy them twice because you got insufficient wattage the first time.

Read the above FAQ thoroughly then come back with specific questions.
Get prepared to use your brain- the learning curve is fairly steep at the outset but it will all come together eventually :D

The New Marine Aquarium by Mike Paletta is invaluable.
