What is the most boring fish in your tank? I have to say its my African Butterfly. Smart, comes up to the front of the tank when I open it, waiting for fish flakes (won't eat crickets) but otherwise just hangs out over the plants and stares. I'm trying to sell her on ebay, (local pickup only) otherwise I'll just give her away.

Ok go ahead tar and feather me now. :P

Would you beleive that none of my fish are very boring? That said, they aren't going 24/7 either. The tetras are always chasing each other around, and into things, which gets the betta worked up and he chases the tetras around. The corys are always zipping around randomly and bumping into things.

And feeding time - well thats just hilarious watching the tetras play keep away with the sinking pellets. And the corys all pile up on top of each other to get to the pellet, 4 little tails in the air.

Thats too bad your butterfly isn't what you were hoping for, they're cool looking fish though.

I guess it all depends on taste. I thought she'd look cool over the tops of the plants, and she does. But she looks bored silly. The others are all over having fun, but she just hangs there, wishing she was in Africa, rather than an aquarium in Montreal...I think. I'm hoping to find her a more suitable home.

Sounds like a fun tank Indigo. :)
I take it your ich battle is won.....

that's just it, perception. My banjo catfish isn't seen too often and is only really active at night but it makes an occasional visit during evening feeding time and is extremely interesting to watch in my opinion. A big difference from the swarm of barbs and danio's in the same tank that are constantly on the move. Kyle

Well she is pretty cool, the way she snaps up flakes is like a seaplane in attack mode.

Banjo catfish... I like the catfish group and plan to include some of the bigger ones in my next tank :)

for very much the same reasons, my most boring fish is my albino bushy-nosed pleco. i rarely see him, and when i do he darts away to hide. i know he's there because interestingly enough the algae wafers are completely gone the morning after being given. hmm... other than that my tank is very vivid as well. i love the little buggahs!

Plecos are boring aren't they cause they just sit there? But I'm not getting rid of mine.

Such a cool looking fish imo.

Enjoy what ya got :)

I have an Asain Bumble bee cat... shyist little bugger ive ever seen. Have yet to see him come out of his cave during the day, kinda dissapointing. Id sell him if i had the heart.

I loooove my tank. The panda cories remind me of little hyperactive puppies- always running around together, bumping into things, jumping around over each other... They're a surprise favorite. The black neons and the harlequins are always in motion, chasing after each other like a game of tag only they keep forgetting who's "it." One krib tries to follow the cories around, but hasn't gotten the hang of going vertically up the sides of the tank... So much fun to watch.

Hopefully my other krib will become less of a wallflower- it just sits in a fake rock formation and only comes out when theres algae flakes to eat or chase the other krib from the mouth of the cave. Maybe after some time the other krib may come out a bit more.

oh no, don't get me wrong, i definitely have the right fish and i like him very much. the question was asked of the most boring fish. he's mine. my red-eye tetras are nuts, my pearl gouramis are NOT shy like everyone says they should be, my rainbows are great, my clown loaches active, blah blah blah. my fish rock.

I actualy find my plecto interesting to watch. She's always out sucking the glass or the plants. Its funny to watch her try to free-swim, cuz she's such a clutz whes she isn't suckered onto something!

My pleco was out tonight too, I think he smelled bloodworms, I like the way they kind of shoulder walk pushing forward from side to side with the front end.

Roxanne, African Butterfly was peeking out form under some leaves tonight. Maybe she's just a quiet type. Not at all agressive like I thought she'd be, think I'll keep her. Awwwwww :)

I like fish who just kind of sit there... those that beg none stop are kind of hard to just watch

The most boring fish... I would have to say was my swordtails when I had them... there was nothing really unique about their behavior....

really? they sell it in the detergent aisle of grocery stores.
why not get some feeders to help cycle your tank?
get a live one and a dead one and throw them both in, they are hardy fish and dump out a ton of waste, so one (large) feeder is probably the equivalent of 3 normal fish.
plus they are only 10 cents each
another option is to go to a local river and grab out a rock or two and drop it in, of course some people might worry about parasites/critters but I've never had a problem and I do it frequently enough

I guess the plastic nemo's at the toy store won't work eh? :o

Sorry, its Friday :bowing:

couldnt find any maybe it is a uk thing

no feeder fish, no ammonia and one seriously polluted river(thames) that i dont even want to think about what is in it

i have bath toy nemo and friends they even swim but doesnt quite make the grade

i will wait for the biospira for now

if that doesnt work then i guess i will carry on feeding my water with fish food till the colony is up and running

Nah dont wait for Bio-spira, just put some flake food in a shotglass and put it in the corner of your tank...the food will decay and turn into amonia.....it works great...or you could just go get 1 or 2 uncooked shrimp from the grocery store throw them in and they will make amonia.

My most boring fish is......my Butis butis....he's an ambush predator so he NEVER moves....he's cool looking and swims VERY weird, but just never moves.

I could send you a couple of the floating glass fish I got from big Al's as a bonus gift . They generally arent affected by ammonia and nitrite or temperatures below about 1200* F. They are however extremely boring unless you have enough current to move them around a lot

Banjo catfish... I like the catfish group and plan to include some of the bigger ones in my next tank :)

May i suggest getting some puffers?

i know this doesnt really qualify for "most boring fish"....in fact its the exact opposite. I love my puffers, they're like little dogs, sticking their head into the caves and plants, chasing the ghost shrimp around. They're prob the most entertaining fish ive seen.

as far as your question about most boring fish, id have to say my guppies....they just swim at the surface until the african butterfly sees them...we all know what happens after that

oooohhhhh glass fish real glass i take it

i have been putting fish food in the tank to keep the colony alive that had already begun due to my neons :(

thanks for the offer of glass fish

you are so funny

i guess plastic or glass fish wouldnt exactly jump start the cycle now would they :)

no guess i need to persevere

biospira posted two days ago so with any luck we are talking a few days

thanks for taking my poor humour in such good humour

it is nice to be made to feel welcome

and i guess the fish food in eggcup will help keep colonies going enough to be sure it works

Chunks of poo? Dwarf puffers must be kept in a species only tank musn't they?

Russjet, my daughter used to have these windy bath toys when she was small. Beats looking at water :)

generally, yes...but i promise you with a tank full of puffers you will need no other fish for color, entertainment, or cure for boredem. And some people have a relatively large amount of success keeping DPs in a tank with Otos and other small algae eating fish. Shrimp.....well, thats a rough spot. It depends on the fish i guess (my fish made it very apparent that they would not be able to resist eating the ghosts...they were all gone within the first day).

What size tank are you planning on getting? Becuase if you get a big enough tank you could try for a few GSP, they're really cool too and there are pleanty of articles out there on how to care for them.

Bingo,
Add (in a controlled way) a heavy dose of food, since you will most likely be doing a big water change before fish time overfeeding shoudn't be a big problem. Trust me food will produce far more ammonia than you think. If you have retained a bacterial colony from from a fishy cycle, bio-spira shouldn't be needed. Just do something to elevate the ammonia to a testable amount and keep it there. I reemember someone else in the UK had some trouble with finding ammonia. You may want to run a search on Threads with UK in the title.

I have been googling for puffers Mr Chunks, my LFS does not have any at the moment. But I'll keep my eyes open thanks.

Russjet, throw in a couple of cocktail shrimp stuffed inside a nylon stocking so you know where it is,,,,and let it decompose a bit. Is a good suggestion.

i have stuck in an eggcup half full of fish food

went to london aquarium today had loads of fun lookng at their sharks

and other fish nemo and dory were a huge hit with the little ones

and the rays were great

and yes the prianha were realy quite boring wonder how they would react at feeding time though
