Ok, so I just got me a 3 gallon eclipse system 3.. you can look at my sig also.. but.. I have 3 neon tetras, 4 fantail guppys, 1 catfish, and 1 algae eater.. Question is.. Is that good?? Can I fit more in there.. what other fishes should I get.. you know stuff like that. I've had this tank for 2 days now.. and today I noticed that the water was cloudy. I fed them three times so far, and there's not much food left on the bottom. Any suggestions?? Anything is great to help me out.. even saying that I'm dumb hahaha :p

Thanks, Jaegurl

Do you know what kind of albino catfish you have? if its a corry catfish then thats fine... If its a channel catfish, then it's adult size is over 4 feet in length... Any idea what it is?

The other problem I see is that your tank is fully stocked and you say its been running for two days... your ammonia levels are going to shoot through the roof...that = lots of dead fish and a sad couple of days for you. My first sugestion here would be for you to read and understand the sticky at the top of the forum on cycling your tank, and seince you already have all your fish you need to go out and find a product called bio-spira ASAP! petco and other big chains dont cary it, you'll need to look in a tropical fish store.

Untill then you are going to need daily water changes of at least 50% to keep the toxic ammonia and nitrites from building up in your tank.

As for adding fish, I know that neon tetras like to be kept in groups of six or more, so you may look into that, but not untill your tank stabalises! Also, you don't need to feed quite that often. this could be another of several reasons for the cloudy water. I feed once every two days. I know the fishes look really hungry, but they are faking it. they don't have the same concept of full that we peoples do.

oh, and before I forget, welcome to the wonderfull world of fishkeeping! :)

It's a corry =) gosh thanks so much!! That really helps, because I already had 2 of my fishies die on me. 1 neon and 1 guppy.. now they're 3 neons and 4 guppys. I'm gona change the water as soon as I get home.

Thanks for welcoming me =D This message board is so relieving heh

Aloha glad to have you on the site :]] You might be overfeeding just a little bit instead of doing the 3 feedings a day I would cut back to 2 dont worry your fish wont starve or anything, Do you know the sex of your guppies if you have a Male and Female they may have more guppies the female are less colorfull and the males have the long fins with the crazy colors, as for your pic,,, definatly one fine looking female.. TE HE HE.. Hope you get your water crystal clear ...  :dance

best of luck with this... don't hesatate to ask us any questions you may have. We're always glad to help.

white cloudy water is a sign of bacterial growth... this is a good thing that may last up to a week.. but in a small tank like that will only last a day or 2 or 3..

as for stocking.. i have a similar sized tank and i only keep 6 neons in it with a few plants..

i certainly wouldn't put anymore fish in there... if you find a type of fish that you love in your tank, you may want to take out the other kinds and make it a single species tank... i have a 10g with cory cats only and my small neon tetra tank... but that's personal opinion/preference... i'd suggest a few live plants like java moss or java fern, for sure... they will help with the bioload and cycling..

Thanks for all the help!! The guppys are all male. I'm begining to think that I did everything wrong though, because another of my neons died =( and for some reason.. the tail of my algae eater is gone!! Oh my.. unreal depressing. My corry is wonderful though, keeping me happy because it just swims all over the tank, wiggling it's little self.. hahahah so adorable! Um.. I somewhat understand the sticky.. but I'd have to read it more and over again to get it sinked into my head. I'm gona check out some books at the same time. Anymore suggestions would be great! Oh and I changed my water yesterday and today.. 50% Tank looks nice.. but I just can't handle them dying on me again =(

yay, atlest im not the only one from hawaii! anyway, if you go to modern pet store, they have a nice set up (its by the new wal mart) or theres one pet store in kalihi, but i didnt go to it yet, a friend told me about it, said its really nice. if you go to the modern pet store to get fish, they let you net them out yourself, unless you buy salt water, its pretty neat, and they have a cat roaming the store
