the fish you bought at petsmart is not a true midas it is a midas/red devil hybrid. i bought 2 of these fish 11 months ago. it will change colors so its hard to say what it will turn out looking like. these fish will not get the size hump that cichlidscene's young male does due to the fact that they are part red devil. once he gets a little larger that the con they will have a time fighting him/her off. i do not suggest putting african cichlids with that fish. what size tank do you have these guys in? the 2 i have are very aggressive and do not tolerate tank mates even in large tanks.

omg so how can i get my hand on a true midas i asked the guy 4 diffrent times was it a true midas he kinda said yes but i do think i heard the tone of a lie in his voice.I am taking it back first thing in the morning. oh i was just asking about the african just to know it was an albino thats got to be rare right? so you think its better if i go to a mom and pops petstore to get a real one. p.s while i was there i seen them sell 4 oscars to a guy with a 20 gallon

the only reliable place i can tell u is http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/. but you may find a mom and pop store that can get you one. as for the african i dont know. i doubt that petsmart had a rare fish.

Unfortunatly ALOT of lfs dont know what a "midas" is they usually only know Red Devil. so anything that looks like a red devil is a red devil to them. The color yours will end up ?? who knows if you go to my picture page on the www in my profile you can see a pic of my midas fry from 6months ago and youll see some are stripped and some are white/orange and black. now 6 months since the pic they are all bright orange except for one particular large male that has a completely orange body and a white head. CichlidScene also has a great album of his and how it changed colors many times. Id say NO to the africans keep em out! the convicts will eventually have their "fins" full when the midas learns its supposed to be the boss. if need be the midas will have no problem at all killing them even its tank space isnt a problem the midas will still enjoy tormenting your convicts to death eventually in most cases. For targets i had good luck with Tinfoils but they get to large for your 75 with the midas in it as well. One single male took over a 220gallon tank creating all types of havoc and stress to 3 tinfoils, a female midas, and a same size Buttikoferi, often keeping them stuck in a cave for most of the day. You will love this fish as it matures good luck with it. post some pics soon.
