In the Fluval 204...there is a "media basket tray" in the top basket. Its not the actual media basket, its a tray that sits inside the top basket. The manual didnt say much about it other than its name. So im thinking that it is used kinda like a seperator? The reason why i am asking is because im going to put polywool type stuff in the bottom basket, carbon in the middle basket, and biomax in the top basket, well i have too much biomax to fit underneath that tray.(the biomax takes up the whole basket) So my question is, what is it used for?

The short answer? Anything you want! That's the great thing about canister filters - you can tailor the media to your tank's needs, using as much or as little of any particular type of media as you want. As long as it fits properly, you can use whatever you like.
As for order, you'll probably have an easier time with maintenance if you use a coarse media in the bottom, then bio max, then carbon, and place the fine floss/foam last. If you're using a fine media in the bottom basket you'll have to do a lot more maintenance because it will become clogged much faster.

what do you think about this,

Bottom basket: Filter fiber (cut to fit the basket, should I fill it to the top?)

Middle Basket: Carbon

Top Basket: Bio-max

Thanks for the quick reply by the way
