I have 2 female bettas in a 10 gallon aquarium. They used to be really good together, now they are very aggressive towards eachother..I have one in a homemade refugium, treating her fins. Well I let the one out of the refugium, and they both started to be aggressive. I dont know what to do, I don't want get rid of one. I have enough hiding spaces for one to hide in. Its not like one picks on the other and thats it, they both pick on eachother. Any suggestions?

When I first put my female bettas together, they established a pecking order. They beat each other up, nothing like the boys do, and after a few days they were over it and were fine with each other. That could be what they're doing.

indeed they do have personalities and "moods". for example, my betta gets really excited when i feed him brine shrimp. he darts around the tank and builds a bubble nest. if it continues though you should obviously separate them

I'm not certain this will work with bettas, but maybe if there were more than just two of them the aggression would be spread out a bit more and things would get better. Then again it could just compound the problem :)

I had 4 female bettas together and didn't see any problems with them fighting, but bettas are quite moody and each one seems to have it's own personality. You may have just been unlucky and ended up with two overly aggressive females that will never get along well with others.

Another option would be to get a tank divider to separate them.

Probably lucked out because they're in a community tank...dont want to seperate it. They were fine for a while, until they got temporary seperated, so now i think they just have to adjust back to normal. Thanks again people
