I have had 2 Glologht Sunset Platies in my 20g for about a week. The female has had 5 fry. The male right now has white spots on his tail. There is 1 big one with 3 around it. Could this be ick?

IF it looks like tiny grains of salt than it is most likely ich. I actually noticed some "white spots" on my platies's tails, they arent ich because ive seen it before, and they seem to come and go without affecting the fish. However, read up on ich, and if u see ur platies rubbing or dashing themselves against gravel, plants ect then it is probably ich :(
Try posting a picture perhaps?

Ok, I will try to take a picture later on tonight. My readings are:
Ammoina: 0ppm
Nitrite: 3ppm :(
Nitrate: 20ppm
In the morning when I was changing the water the fish was swimming up againsted the gravel. I am not sure if it was firghten or if it was ich.

Update: Getting a picture can not be done. The fish just swim too fast and my camera sucks. The fish has now sarted to rub againsted the rocks. I think it might be ick. So how can I treat it?

Now, I need help! There are more spots on the body of the fish. During the day it was hiding in the rockes with its tail againsted it. Now it is starting to swim more and its still eat like normal.

im in the same boat as you-my fish is sick as well and i hav eno idea what to do but it isnt ich-k, when u go to aquaria central forums, click on the articles corner and "fish diseases and how to prevent them". There u will find a detailed description of ich and different methods to treat it. u can also google ich to find info. U can buy ich meds at the store, but some of these are dangerous and , for me, didnt work. U could go the tried an dtested route-many ppl have success with it- higher temp and salt. The higher temperature (86 degrees f) kills and or speeds up the ich lifecycle, and the salt kills it when it is in its vulnerable state. Hopefully some of the pros will step in on the exact directions (im a total newbie)
