I'm planning on setting up my brand new 20g tall tank with a dark theme and bright fish...

right now i'm planning:
black substrate, slate, with other gray/black/dark rocks, lightly planted with dwarf sag or another ground cover plant and anachris or another fast growing stem plant...

6-8 tiger barbs
mystery fish X
3-4 cory cats

i really am looking for a fish that is not slow moving, colorful, top/middle dweller, grows to 4-5 inches and can defend itself...

so far i've come up with a powder blue gourami, blue gourami, or moonlight gourmi... but i'm not sure if the tiger barbs will pick on them or not..? So i'm looking for another fish suggestion. i just want him to be more of the trophy/eye catcher fish. i'm thinking some sort of cichlid? any suggestions? i know i probably can't have an angel due to the nippy tigers and probably no kribs because they will fight the tigers over territory on bottom...

I would get one german blue ram or one convict...their personalities will make them by far the most interesting...and they would be ok with the other fish you are considering.
