yesterday evening i spotted a white spot on one of my platy so being white spot phobic scooped out all platty and put them in sons five gallon to hopefully salvage the situation
have taken them back today for a store credit
however while scooping them out found a single fry
and while gravel vacing found another two
cant feed them to the betta i am a softie i know he already had some but
so they are in a jar on top of the tank with thermometer in to keep check on temperature
what are my options apart
from toilet (husband suggestion)
betta snack (eldest sons suggestion)

They will die in that jar anyhow. Put them back in and what wil be will be, or take them back to LFS. Never flush a live fish down the toilet. They can live for days and die a long icky death.

I'd raise them babies :P
Dunno why you had to get rid of them after you seen the white spot. If your afraid of ich its likely that your tank already has them without the fish now..

your reaction to seeing a white spots seems VERY extreme

a little extreme maybe
however when my first neons came down with it every single one died
so despite everyone saying i solved this no problem i had a different experience this was a month ago and they were dead within ten days all of them and the tank was kept at high temp with salt added to kill any remaining tomites and only changed at the end of last week to add biospira and fish
i bought these fish on saturday and on sunday saw the spot,
so didnt want to end up losing whole tank of fish because of one white spot. so i removed them and have sent them back to shop and will return for more when they are not sick, i sent all the platys back as they were from the same tank therefore all likely infected. the shop has individual filters on each tank so not a global problem in the shop. i also did not add the water from the bags when bringing the fish home as this was advised against so any parasites would just be on fish and possibly on the net.
my understanding of the life cycle of ich is that the fish probably came in with the parasite under its skin and at this point it is not contagious it is only after the parasite has fallen to gravel multiplied and hatched into its tomite free swimming stage
therefore i am hoping that as this first spot was the only spot i saw that none fell to gravel
i have more neons now and also some cories so i think medicating is not a good idea and salt didnt work for me first time round
better to be a little paranoid than to decide that my first fishkeeping experience doesnt start and end in less than two months
i have got a fry tank and transferred the fry to that and also bought some powder food for them
with any luck they will survive and i will feel that at least i did something right.this time round
water parameters are still good and i am checking daily to be sure the biospira was fully active.
so maybe extreme but once bitten twice shy, i guess

Wow that same thing happened to me!! WEIRD lol good luck witht he babies-i found some molly fry in my tank about a month ago-extremely tiny-too hard to catch- there is lots of hiding places so i figured id let nature alone ( put a sponge on the filter intake tube so they wouldnt get sucked up, of course) and out of th e7 i saw 2 have survived, and are now over an inch long and REALLY cute. If u can get them past that one noticible therefore eatable by the other fish stage, they will grow like crazy and eat flakes 5X their size. Last week i saw a beutiful ,tiny orange platy baby.....ill keep my fingers crossed...
Good luck with ur fry!

The same thing happened to my 2 weeks ago! What I did is buy a 5.5g tank, a sponge filter, and a heater. I now have 5 fry in my tank. I feed them crushed flakes and baby brine shrimp. They are now really orange and are about .5 on in inch long.

i think they have grown
surely not in just over 24 hours
however the betta seems to have taken an interest and sometimes looks like he is just licking his lips and waiting hope they are aware of him
how long can they stay in the fry tank for it is one of those float at the top with a lid on it type things, with a thing you can stick in or take out if not needed for using with a pregnant fish.i have taken that out.
how big is safe for the other fish to not eat them

It depends on the fish. My platy were pretty safe at about a quarter inch. You don't have any big enough to worry about in your tank.

thank you swimfins
was wondering if you were gonna post for me today
will they be ok to get to that size in the fry tank attachment which is about three by five inches seems as if it will get a bit tight

Well you know if I know something I'll stick my 2 cent in otherwise I let the people who know answer lol. I had platy fry and 2 survived. I never fed them, they managed to find hiding places until they were about about as big as my pinky nail. Then they'd come to feed with the rest. My sword had babies, but none of them made it. I saw a couple tiny ones, but I think the male gourami saw them too. I figure its population control. I don't want a bunch of fry anyway. Sad eh?
By the way, how many are in that fry tank? It all depends how many are in that little space. I don't think you'll have to wait till they're a quarter inch because your fish aren't the size that can swallow them. Just wait till they're too big for your greediest fish to swallow I'd think.

I kept my first fry, only found one after doing a gravel vac. (I probably sucked the rest of them up)
anyway, at my LFS i found this pretty cool plastic breeding case, it was only 3.00 dollars, it floats in the tank, with cover and all it still shares the same water as the others, small side vents, small enough so it won't escape or get eatin. i crush flakes and he enjoyes them.
it's been about 2 weeks now, what once was only 2 black eyes, now has color and swims like crazy. pretty cool to watch grow so far.
