Holey Aponogeton, Batman !!

Just got it two days ago. I read a description of this plant as a lace leaf plant with the windows closed.
Since I planted it, some of the leaves have grown about two inches but some of the "windows" are opened. I dont know whether to blame the pleco, the flagfish, or not enough nutrients in the substrate, or maybe too much light.
I have about 80 watts over a 29 gallon tank, no CO2.
Anyone have an idea as to why my aponogeton bovinianus is developing holes?

The holes are right where the indentations are, the margins look ok.
I put some flourish tabs in the gravel, 1 per about six inches when the tank was setup two months ago. The only fertilizer the plants are getting now is fish waste and about half (algae control) of the recommended dose of kent general purpose liquid fertiziler once a week.

A particularly demanding plant. Likes it cooler than most.

I didnt know that. I read a couple of places that as long as it had moderate light it was only averagely difficult. Its at about 79 F, the fish species I have in the tank like it warm. Diamond tetras and m. splendida australis.
