i have a mid sized sebae clownfish that has some fungus growing on both sides of his body. it is minimal and i was wondering if this is something that would go away on its own without the use of medication?

Fungus are rare--bacterial infections are not. Most likely, the fish was either injured or kept in poor water conditions, or had an ailment which reduced it's slime coat, allowing a bacterial infection to set in. Depending on the condition of the fish now, it may recover (ie, in good water, still eating and behaving normally) without treatment, or it may not. If poor water conditions still exist, improving them will help the fish out. If other fish are harrassing this one, it will be less likely to improve. Removing the fish to a quarantine tank, and being able to medicate if it worsens or fails to improve, would be my best advice.

Thanks. Actually I think that is the case. A good friend of mine owns a fish store , the one where I picked this guy up and the 99% of the shipment came down with this same type of infection.

He is not getting harrassed and is acting normally, though if conditions worsen I will treat him.

How long has this tank been setup? You shouldn't be reading any nitrItes if your tank was cycled.

Any plans for a bigger tank? Sorry to say, but tangs in small tanks are most often very short lived.
