Recentley I have notice that my two oscars eyes have began to bug out a little from thier heads. After dealing with ick and high nitrites I may be a little paranoid, but I want to ask, is this normal development for an Oscar? I have seen photos of other oscars online and it has been about half and half. Some have bug eyes like mine and others seem to be flush with the rest of thier bodies. I was just wondering if my oscars have pop-eye.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Sorry about the quality. I don't know if you will be able to tell anything from these. I am still trying to perfect my cameras settings.

In the pictures, your Oscar looks very normal to me. Most of the O's I've owned are noticeably bug-eyed when compared to my dempseys (check my photo's in the GF thread). The big thing to watch for is clamped fins or odd behavior. If there are no other signs of an issue, I wouldn't worry.

This sounds strange, but Gulp's eyes varied in "bugeyeness". Some days they would buldge out noticeably more than others. http://www.roadrashed.com/smilies/huh.gif

CTHOPPER your oscars look very healthy and normal, kinda shy to the camera and like to lay down a lot. Normal. The bigger the oscar gets the buggier his eyes will get. I didn't really notice any form of really bugged out eyes until one of my oscars got 10+ inches, now every so often I notice his one eye seems a little bugged out. This bug eye is a real disease. So I take it serious. I got MelaFix, PimaFix, and a product called Binox in a 2oz plastic pillbottle looking container. Binox is a yellow powder that temporarily dusts the water. Its made by a comp called "Jungle" and you should find it in the medicine section of your pet store. This is a extra strength bacteria and fungus remedy. I don't know if there is such thing as too much medicine, but I add the proper dosage of Binox, some Stresscoat, a fair amouth of salt (yes aquarium salt is a MUST), then either the Pima or the MelaFix works great. In less than 7 days you will see healthier fish if you keep the water clean. And if you keep a medicine cabinet like that for Oscars, they will last for as long as you can keep feeding them just about.

With GULP you can see exactly what I am referring to as the bug eye in a larger Oscar fish. To me this is not so much abnormal as it is just a sign of maybe stress, but that is just speculation on my part. My fish have this same characteristic as Gulp, so expect something similar with your Oscar's eyes.

Thanks for all the input! Yeah, my oscar just recently got kinda shy. He is also hiding quite a bit. On the positive side his appetite has not been effected, which is one of the main trouble signs I have read about. If I do treat the water will the medicine harm any of the other fish? Will I need to turn my bio-wheel off?
Thanks!
