I have a twenty gallon high sitting in the garage. Since I love the look and behaivor of Rift Lake cichlids, I have done some research and was planning on creating a little tanganyikan community tank. I have selected fish that would stay at four inches and below only (due to the tank size) :

2 Julidochromis transcriptus
1 Neolamprologus brichardi
1 Neolamprologus leleupi
1 Synodontis Petricola

I was wondering if these guys were compatible

Also I think I have a good setup plan that these guys should be right at home in, Rocky caves in the back of the tank, and an open, sandy swimming area in the front-is there anything I need to change?

I know this is a decent bioload once mature, how should I do the water changes as these guys are sensitive to " changes in water conditions"

I need a pair of Julidochromis transcriptus right?
Other wise they'll kill each other, right?

Is there anything else I should do for the pH and buffering, I already plan to have calcerous rocks, sand and crushed coral in the filter.

I had a single transcriptus in a community for a long time with no problems.
I think your setup will work, just don't bother with the swimming area. None of those fish are "swimmers". They like the rocks. You could do a pile of rocks in the middle and those fish would be happy.
