View Full Version : Plan of attack for moving from 25 gallon to 55 gal

I currently have a 25 gallon tank with the following:
1 Ocellaris Clown
1 peppermint shrimp
4 Nassarius snails
5 or 6 hermit crabs
1 porcelin crab
about 20 lbs of live rock & 10 lbs base rock
2 inches of dead sand

I am getting a deal on a 55 gallon (double light strip, oak stand, glass tops, 2 filters, 2 powerheads) for $100. Which I will get next week.

I want to set it up as a FOWLR tank and move everything from the 25 gallon over to the 55.

How would you guys go about doing this (the cycle and moving everything)? I want to go 50% dead sand and 50% live sand for the bottom and then use the live rock and dead sand I have now with a batch of rock from Gulf View for the tank. I will have to buy more base rock.

Which steps should I take first (after setting up the equipment)? I am doing a fishless cycle with ammonia (like I did with the 25 gal).

If I left anything crucial out, let me know and I will provide more info.

Thanks.

I would setup your 55 and cycle it first. When the water is ready then add your LR and you could probably use your sand in the 25 as live sand in the 55. Then add your fish. As long as the water chemistry is very close to your existing water.
