- Discus (esp. 'Snow White')
- Cardinal tetras / neon tetras
- Cherry barbs
- Khuli loaches
- Angel fish
- Oscars
- Cory cats
- Bristlenose Catfish
- Zebra plecos (Oh, how I wish I had one)
- Otocinclus catfish
There are so many more fish I really like, but these are the top 10 - some for personality, some for the role they play in the aquarium, and some just for their good looks ;)
The 'coolest' fish I ever saw was an albino Claria (walking catfish) - absolutely amazing, they're able to 'walk' over land for hours to find a water source, and can eat things almost as large as themselves. I'm not generally a fan of big predators, but something about these fish just got me. I'm also partial to anything albino, not sure why.

The ten most wanted lists are very interesting. I see some common threads and new to me fish. I think that these lists say volumes, about what's available to us in LFS and the personalities of those who are buying. I'm ready to say my 2 cents worth.
1.Angel fish, they give the tank an exotic look, and their movement is delightful and quiet dignity.
2.Guppies, they are your monitors, the first ones to let you know if something bad is going on in the tank, they reproduce well and fast, and they are a nice live fish food or beautiful in their own right.
3.Clown Loaches, good movement and their color provides a melancholy playfulness.
4.Harlequin Rasboras, there is a good schooling look to these little fishes. I personally adore them and the way that they work constantly with one another, good teamwork.
5.Rosy Barbs, these are the soft, blushing look when you want color and movement in a tough little fish, they also breed well.
6.Geophagus Jurupari, often under-rated and definitely not for a small aquarium, they be-lie their gentleness and they are active, likes to dig in the gravel or sand, will uproot your favorite plant, but redeems itself with it's big, friendly eyes, and neon blue markings, very gentle.
7.Koi, Fresh water fish, not for small aquariums, peaceful, like a large puppy. They will also dig up your plants, use floating plants for this vegetarian.
8.Goldfish, especially the veil or fan tail, shubunkins are very colorful, peaceful fish, that add alot of color, not for smal aquariums.
9.Bettas, males especially, colorful dainty, good for small aquarium. He will take charge of an area and defend it with nipping.
10.Kuhli Loaches, they add mystery to an aquarium, needs a hole in the wall to hide in, quite timid, but very enjoyable to watch them interact with other fishes.
Well that's all my favorites and why they are. I sure enjoyed these lists and now I realize why it's so hard to just list 10!

Chef, I adored your photos. They look so lovely and active, maybe a bit of a ham, huh? They seem to love the camera. Why are your clown loaches more golden between the black stripes, than mine, are they really that gold or did the camera do that?
