I'll keep it brief.

60watts of light over a 42 gallon tank. Mostly south american dwarf cichlids. Any plant suggestions?

JazzyB:cool:

java fern
java moss
cryptocoryne wentii

if the water is on the soft side you might get away with a few others but with about 1.5 watts a gallon your plant growth will be slow

Interesting, as I do currently have java fern and wendti in the tank.

my tank has about that amount of light realative to the size and I've gotten regular hygrophila(avatar) and currently have crypt wentii, and willisii, dwarf sag half died from the numbers I first got but is growing now, java fern doing nicely.

I had a melon sword that did ok, but took it out because I learned that it could get bigger than my tank.

I made a list of plants that would fit size wise in a 75 and noted dificulty and light requirements. here are what might fit your tank's light level.

Anubias nana
Bacopa monnieri- stem plant
Ceratopterus cornuta
Crypts Afinis, becketi, cilliata, crispatula, hudoroi, moehlmannii, parva(slow grower), pontederiifolia, undulata, walkeri, wendtii, and willisii. not all may be redily available but that is the list I made of possible to grow in tanks that would fit a 75.
a number of sword plants exsist that are small, parviflorus is one that isn't as light demanding and a smaller one.
Hygrophila species, though redish or feathery leaved varieties need more light.
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis is a possible ground cover for lower light tanks but reproduces faster emersed.
Lobelia cardinalis
Microsorum pteropus, java fern several cultivars with various leaf shapes are available.
Nymphaea glandulifera, lily that stays submersed, gets about 6 inches tall
Nymphaea rudgeana, rare, submersed in aquarium, to about 15 inches?
Sagittaria subulata, dwarf sag
you might get Vallisneria to grow but can get taller than your aquarium
Vesicularia dubyana, java moss

there, from what I was able to gather out of Kasselmann's Aquarium Plants book, is what you might consider. can't say wheather all will be available though

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate the effort.
