Hey im converting my 55 gallon freshwater into a saltwater. Ive looked at different types of filtration and I realized I want a wet/dry filter. THey are way out of my price range and I plan on making one. I have lots of sites on how to build your own but I was wondering if anyone had instructions on how to make one out of a 20 gallon tub . I want to have a refugium wiht bio balls and a skimmer and heater in it.

Another question is can the biomatter ( bioballs) be submerged or do they have to be above the water line. Im fairly new ot the aquarum world and need some help thanks.

make sure your tub is sturdy. bio matter should be half in half out. Go to Home Depot get some of that plastic light cover looks like egg crate. You can make partitions and shelving out of it. Use all plastic zip ties to hold it all together. I would also drill it for a bulk head fitting to run an external return pump. Good luck and have fun!!!!!!!
