Hi,

I have been feeding my new beta of 3 days pellet food. He puts it in his mouth, hold onto it for a few seocnds and then spits it out. Is this normal? I also have some frozen brine shrimp that I was gonna try too if he didn't start eating more.

Pretty common--try soaking the pellets a bit before adding them, to soften them. Frozen brine is an okay treat, but not a great staple food. Work on him with pellets, and a try a variety of different foods. While bettas can be picky, most are pretty piggy once they start eating.

Most of the bettas I've kept have had better luck eating the micro pellets rather than the full sized pellets. They've also all liked frozen brine shrimp and blood worms, but have a hard time getting to them if there are faster eaters in the tank with the betta.

I feed my 2 bettas betta bits mainly but they get freeze dried brine shrimp now and then as well. 4-5 pellets twice a day.

Every time I geta betta it ends up eating what the last betta did not want to touch. My newest betta won't touch pellets but has been going crazy for betta flakes. So he gets those. I find that once they reach 6-7 months of age they loose their pickyness and will start to chow down on whatever they see.
