What is Bio-Spira?I am hearing people talk about it on the fourum and I have a few questions does it help with a fishless cycle, would it be avable in a LFS? Should I not worry about it? Should I get it? how much would I need if I get it (I have a 20 gal tank)

Bio-Sprira = bacteria in a bottle. It contains the proper bugs to convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. Essentially it allows you to bypass 'cycling' a tank. Or an instant cycle. Not sure how much you need, should say on the package. I'd say its rare to see at a LFS, its certainly not at mine. Its pretty simple to use - add to tank, add fish right away.

I am thinking there is no such thing as instant gratification, so for now, I am going to not bother with it, and stick to the longer fishless cycle to get the bateria.

it works it really does

been out on a girlie drinking night so hope not rambling

i had ten neons to start cycle they got ich i started resaerching how to cure it i found this forum but despite good advice they died

i had therefore begun cycling by ten days ish of fish i was seeing nitrItes and nitrate i had kick started with some gravel from mums tank

i read about bio spira and found a site that will ship to uk at this time of year

and ordered some as i was unable to find pure ammonbia to cycle with anyway

i got my order and stuck it in the fridge so that my tank would be ich free to start with

i ordered enough to treat my sons and my tanks twice over

i added a full dose to mine and his then waited 24hours as i wanted to see if my readings zeroed which would be an indication that the cycle was ok

they zeroed out overnight
so i went shopping and bought my fish load i was worried but i added fish and biospira

i was advised to try not to waterchange till a week to ten days after to allow full colonisation of bacteria

i did however get a reading of 0.25 after a few days on notrites and asked if i should waterchange and the guys here said if it goes up to 0.5 do a waterchange it didnt it stayed there for a few days and then that disappeared too

i did google it for other info and only found one bad review as somone got a bad batch but they then got new stuff sent out and that worked

HTH (hope this helps)

Yep, it's definately the real thing. I have used it 3 times in emergency situations and it never let me down. You must use it exactly as directed though. You start with a new tank with no ammonia or nitrite readings and add the proper amount of bio spira (1 oz. for every 30 gallons). Then you add a full bio load of fish. You may have a slight ammonia or nitrite spike, but not to worry. You should have nitrates within 24 yours. It's that easy. I have heard you can do a waterchange after a couple of days, but I always waited 2 weeks before doing my first water change.
