So here we are, my sister is giving up the SW tank because she doesn't have the spare time anymore to take care of it and doesn't want it to be further neglected.... so she asked me if I would take it. Talk about opportunity knocking!! Ok, so here I am with absolutely no idea about it other than knowing what live rock is and a live sand bed. The tank is a 44 gallon corner tank with 55 lbs of LR, 2 clowns, a Mandorin something (will look it up) and maybe 2 or 3 damsels. I know the damsels are aggressive little guys, other than that I'll have to look up too. Tonight she came by and we filled a basin thing up with the mixture the tank will need when it gets here, the water is perfect for now. We're bringing the tank tomorrow and inhabitants, rock, sand tomorrow and I just wanted to let you all know I am not only a freshie these days but a Saltie as of tomorrow as well :D I will read throught the sticky up top for things I might need to know.... any other little hints you guys could offer?

Welcome to the salty side. :dance

I am shocked that Doll is coming to the salty side. :thud:

My advice is to take your time. The stickie at the top is a real good starting point. That is where I started. :)

Thanks guys :D
ok, here's the status. She didn't bring the tank over just yet because we have to get a few more buckets so we can load her water in, she's got a water softener in her house, I don't.... so the plans are set for either Thursday night or Friday.... I'm on my way :D

ok guys, the tank has made it here over this past week and so far everything is running ok. My sister had this filter/skimmer combo that I'm not too into at the moment so I will probably be replacing that.... here's a pic when I first got it up and running...not so pretty but there also hasn't been a clean up crew in the tank for some time... In the meantime, I bought a few red-clawed hermits and 2 red skunk cleaner shrimps and my are they at work... My next tasks will include changing the background to black and replaing the skimmer.... and a powerhead....

Hey! I like that background!!

I painted mine black with a $1.00 roller and and $1.99 quart of black paint from HD. It took five minutes to move my plumbing and about 5 minutes per coat, times two. Now it looks NICE ;) I'll never use a plastic background again.

hehehe, the back isn't too bad but might make more sense behind a FW tank.... I don't know what my sister was thinking, hehehe.... anyhoo..... since she used vaseline to get that backing to stay, I'm gonna have to go the route of "dollar store" board... I'm leaning more towards black than blue.... ;) that was my secret connection advice ;)

So what do you have in it so far? Any long range plans on what you want to keep? The filter I'd run empty just to move you water around. The pads will do more harm than good unless you change them a lot. The l.r. will also do most of the filtration for you so why waste time and $, The skimmer combo is it a skilter by any chance? Imo they aren't worth the trash bag you'll probably end up throwing the skimmer part into. You may or may not even need a skimmer depends on what you keep and how densly populated the tank is.

so far she's got 75 lbs of Live Rock (I thought it was only 55....) she's got a regular Penguin filter on it, and the "skilter" (yes, that's what it is, thanks for pointing that out). Right about now I'm thinking of trashing it because of how noisy it is... I don't mind the bubbles, they're miniscule.... the noise is unbelievable though.... anyhoo.... I'm thinking she has something else I could use, not sure..... the fish are 3 clowns, 1 PJ cardinal, and 2 damsels..... one is a velvet blue and the other, no idea..... I know the damsels aren't really too good to keep in there but this is what came with the tank..... also, there's 1 crab, not sure what kind, only that he'd not a porceline, lives in the rock somewhere, and I haven't seen him..... there's a snail, 4 hermits, and 2 skunk cleaner shrimp..... I guess I just really want a successful tank..... I would like to get a dwarf angel, but we'll see how things progress and when I get the hang of it.
