I seen alot of talk of the Penguin Bio-wheel mini here, so I thought i give it a try again. I had already an old Regent, that i did not have any filter media for (just found some when I picked up the Penguin, So I decided to add that filter also) and an Aquaclear 150 with media, and a UG fillter. My question is it ok to have all the fillters on the tank? Is it posable to over filter the tank? (I already owned the Regent and the Aquaclear) Or am I doing over kill if I just add all three of the HOB filters?

I don't think you can over filter, but there are a couple of view points. The other being that it's better to have one well maintained filter than three pourly maintained ones... Three properly maintained filters should be fine tho...

Ok this is my thought on how to maintain them, PLEASE PLEASE correct me if I am wrong. I will rinse them all out each week in the old fish tank water. And I will pick a schedule where I will have the first 3 weeks of the month set up for replacing the cartages (or in the case of the aquaclear the sponge) so that I never replace more then one at a time. Also in the aquaclear should I replace all 3 media at the same time or should I rotate what media is replaced per week.

Is replacing media once a month to often or not often enough?

Any other things I mised?

Ok, well, I'm a bit confused as to why you want to have 3 HOB filters going in one tank but I'll say about the Aquaclear filter- you have 3 types of media in there, right? That would be a sponge, a bag of carbon and a bag of zeolite? If that's the case, I'd just replace the carbon and zeolite at the same time and rinse the sponge gently in some dechlorinated water. You don't have to replace that sponge unless it starts falling apart, and who knows how long that will take. I used the same sponge in mine for 3 years and it showed no signs of crumbling after even that long. There will still be enough of a bacteria colony in the sponge to quickly grow in the new filter media, and since you are not going to be replacing all the media in all of the filters at the same time, you should be fine.
