I already have a 120 gallon with some big boys in it. I want to re-stock my 20g with aggressive Cichlids but I'm not buying another tank, as space is a premium at my place. What fish will work in the 20g, and how many would I put in? I'm almost dizzy reading all of these threads that state how big a tank has to be for Cichlids.

In a tank that small you will struggle to get 2 smallish aggressive cichlids to live together.

So to hear you tell it, I would need an OCEAN to house 3 fish then! Give me a break! A 20g should be adequate for fish that will only grow to 3 inches tops.

Whatever, you can stick a great white shark in there for all I care.[/QUOTE

And you can take your thumb out of your @$$ for all I care. If you can't be cordial in your threads, don't bother responding. :mad2

hey hey, we can all use a lesson in civility (even me sometimes) 'ol man haggis is trying to look out for your fishs' wellbeing and the wellbeing of your wallet. There is a lot of debate here about fish size vs. tank size. It is true that 2 full grown cichlids of most species will outgrow that tank. look at the mbuna species (this is just one kind here) http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/db.cgi?db=fresh&uid=default&ID=0301&view_records=1 or the auratus http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/db.cgi?db=fresh&uid=default&ID=0304&view_records=1

these only get 3-6" and are pretty mean. Ive got one in a 10 gal. I would have had other fish in with him but he had plans of his own

Thanks for the links. That's the information I was looking for.

a nice group of shellies would work in a 20g. I had a trio of L. ocellatus in a 10g and they were just fine. They can also be fairly aggressive. If i woudl stick my hand in their tank i would get attacked. They would also attack the gravel vacume and anyhtign that came too close ot the glass. they were fiesty little buggers. So if you want something aggresive to put in a small tank shellies would fit the bill.

Are these fish you speak of Cichlids?
