well.. tested my ammonia today and it looks like about .5 - i started the tank last thurs w/ biospira, Im pretty sure i overfed the fish because the water is cloudy - I guess that could cause the ammonia spike too - anyway, how bad is .5 on the fish and is it too soon for me to do a water change?

You won't hurt anything by doing water changes, so go for it. It may even help with the cloudy water, but sometimes that takes time to really clear up. If it continues, you can search here or post again for advice on that.

Keep testing ammonia and nitrites each day to make sure they aren't getting above .5 or so. Never used Bio Spira, but is it a one time thing? or do you get several doses? If you have more and the ammonia/nitrites don't clear up in a few days, maybe you could add another dose?

BS can be used everytime you add a new fish, but it isnt available locally to me - I had to get it shipped to ark from a place in tx. I did a 25% change and didn't feed the fish tonight so I'll see where that puts me.... I noticed my gourami has ich so ive also been rasing the temp to 86 all day and adding salt slowly...... so anyway... crappy day for my fish... but it should all work out soon
