Hi All

I am the newbie to this forum :D
I was after some advice and would really appreciate if anyone could help me out.
I have a tank with 2 angels and 2 clown loaches.
Life has been fine for them for over 6 months but about 2 days ago the angels have changed and have really started to become aggressive towards my loaches.
Anyone know why?.. I am worried that the poor guys (the loaches) will be harassed to death.
There is only thing that has changed. I have noticed some eggs on my air tube. They have appeared there before but the angels ate the lot in just under a day.
Do you think my loaches are spawing and my Angles are upset by this?
any advice on what I should do?
It just seems really odd that life has been good for so long and now.. suddenly.. :(

Thanks for any advice

Its more likely the Angels are spawning thant he loaches! Angels can get quite aggresive when spawning and will readily attack other fish. They also have atendancy to get stressed and eat their own eggs if they are not in their own tank!

If you want to breed the angels I would suggest moving the loaches to another tank once eggs have been layed.

really?.. you think it might be the Angels?
wow :D
well thats great I guess.
I will try moving the loaches and see if that settles the Angels.
Thanks for your advice.
I heard that it can be tricky to breed Angels. Is that true?

Thanks again labont865

angels can be as easy as any other cichlid to breed, but raising the fry can be challengeing.

if they have breed once they will again, but it is somewhat dubious as to whether they have the calmness needed to do the parenting thing. It is possible to raise the young apart from the parents but I'm not in favor of that since one of the charicteristics of angels is that they care for their young. if you raise young when the parents are to ditsy to raise them themselves you further spread the unnatural nonparenting traits.

your very welcome Wozmeister.

Your exsactly right snakeIce. That is why I didnt even mention seperating the fry from the parents. I may make it easier to raise them in some ways but the parents will never learn how to be parents.

Chances are they will eat or just not fertilize the egs properly for the first few times they breed but they have to learn to do it properly. They will eventually become better anb better parents the more they spawn. And as SnakeIce said, if they have spawned already, they will spawn again.

Also I wouldnt move the loaches until the angels spawn. Wait till you see some eggs again then move them. Simply because the Loaches may actually help keep the tank at the breeding perameters, because they pick up all the leftover food and help keep everything in check.

Thanks heaps for your advice.

Its really nice to think that my tank is a happy place and conditions are good enough to induce spawning

Thanks again. Its great to find a place for help and ideas.
