Feeding fish

Does anyone know the rules for feeding fish vegitables? Any that are a no-no?

I have fed spinach, romaine, squash, zucchini, cukes, and some small melon pieces with luck. The honeydew went over well with my gourami.

I was told to freeze any leafy stuff for 20 minutes before putting it in the tank.
