"pearl glass". I did a search for it and can't find it anywhere, only one place under its common name.
I am looking for an easy to keep plant to make a carpet in my tank. thanks.

Hemianthus micranthemoides is the plant commonly called 'Pearl Grass'.
Needs bright light and a rich substrate is typically of great assistance for growing this plant. Also, wants to grow vertically for the most part, but can be trained to grow horizontally, due to it's nice branching ability.
I might suggest you try Glosso as an alternative. Easier to grow and easier to find. Will grow horizontally with less light needed.

thanks for the name.
I did a search on glosso as well, and got the same requirements that pearlglass needs (difficult to grow, and may grow upwards if not enough light)

I don't really care if they grow tall or short (I'd probably have some doing both) but unfortunately I haven't much experience growing aquatic plants, and don't have the money to provide exact requirements for delicate plants. I think I'll stock my tank with java fern and Cryptocoryne beckettii and the like, I have good luck with the java and crypts seem easy, although I really don't understand what is ment by them "melting"..

cryptocorynes do something that other plants do, but more noticeably. when entering a new situation that is enough different the leaves that grew befor are not adapted to the new parameters and the old leaves turn to mush and almost evaperate to make way for leaves that are good in the current conditions.

it just depends on how different the water or lighting is from where you get your crypts... only 3 or 4 of mine out of the 25 or so I got actually lost leaves that way and you wouldn't know they ever did so now.

its just something they do that is temporary, untill they grow new leaves
