I have a 9 inch volitan lion. He's great but I am looking into adding an achilles tang to my tank. I've heard that these can get ick and want to add some cleaner shimp. So my question is will my my lion know they are cleaner shimp or will he just eat them? Are there certain species of cleaners that are better than others?

It will be a risk. Lions will eat cleaners--sometimes. Keeping the lion well fed, and adding the shrimp at night after the lion goes to bed will help, but don't count on it. Instead, you'd be better off setting up a good quarantine system to prevent the introduction of the parasite to your main tank. JMO.
