Hi All!

have seen a few plans for fbf on the net, most using PVC pipes. Have tried to make a couple, but always get sand backflowing into the intake tube and clogging the filter (not enough pressure from the pump to clear the tube).

A few questions:
- I saw a plan once that used gravel at the bottom to prevent backflow - has anybody used this, did it work, and what size gravel is best?

- where are the best diy fbf you have seen? (pref with pics online)

- and are there any aussies out there that know where to get a one way flow valve for pvc in Australia / Sydney region?

cheers!

I was going to build one, but then I found you could buy reasonable new resun ones on ebay for $30 or so... They have a little foam prefilter and fine foam inserts to keep the sand in and so forth... They don't really need a valve.

But for a DIY you could use a black poly one way valve (bunnings?) and they have threaded ends that could be screwed into threaded PVC...

sounds good, did you get your resun one international, or was it a local merchant?

how have you found the quality / operation?

The resun was local and it's seems to work fine for me, tho I'm not using it at the moment. I'm getting a 330litre eventually and plan on putting it there. The one I got needs about a 1400litre/hour pump and it's quite a good size. The main body is about 35cm long and 9cm diameter... Pulls apart easy if you need to, etc... Fairly well made and better than I could have made IMO.

I think it was mr_maggoo I got it from on ebay, tho he doesn't seem to have them now... I'll check if that was the right place later... Have seen the same thing s/h as well for about $15...
