Should I sterilize plastic plants before putting them in the tank, and if so what method should I use? Sorry if this is a dumb question:)

Not a dumb question.
You should be fine boiling them for 5 mins or so.
Have you ever tried live plants? I like them better

Not a dumb question at all. I always used to imagine the plastic plants I bought being packaged in some factory, and wondered what might be on them. I think it's safest to either boil them or give them a dip in some bleach & water, followed by a good long rinse in hot water and a dip in some dechlorinator.
