Hello everyone! My question is what is the difference between steel and aluminium CO2 tanks? Which one is better?

By the way, I am looking for a tank for 29G aquarium. Is 5lb CO2 tank too big for it?
Thanks.

The size of the tank doesn't really matter...only that the bigger the tank, the longer between refills...

Aluminum is lighter (diving, etc) and sometimes more attractive than the steel...other than that I don't know.

Thanks,
Steve

In diving steel tanks generally come round bottomed, I don't know if that is always the same for industrial tanks. The round bottoms are meant so that water cannot pool underneath and corrode out the bottom. Aluminum will be much easier to deal with, IMO. But of course an aluminum tank has to be bigger to account for thicker walls.

btw how big is a 5lb tank? is that like a 2l bottle of soda?

the tank I use is the size of a dive tank - about 2.5ft tall and maybe 18" in circumference

A standard dive tank made of aluminum is an AL80 and holds 3000psi of air. That is much bigger than a 5lb tank. It weighs about 50lbs or so I would figure.
