is it true that sagittaria and vallisneria inhibit each other's growth in the same aquarium?

any plant growing profousely enough could inhibit other plants just because of the nutrient uptake, but as a specific case I don't know that any species of plant are known to noticeably hinder the growth of any other one.
the experience may be that vals often do well in hard water and sag prefers softer more neutral water. inhibit directly? no but they do have different parameters for good growth that may be exclusive to the others well being
