I am in a three way spilt on what fish to get for my 45 gallon hex. I want some beautiful high swimming fish that'll look nicely with the low swimming rams, and mid swimming rasboras I have.

The tank will have:

7 rasboras
4 blue rams
3 small cories
and probably a couple otos

I may add more rasboras if possible, but I need guidence and opinions for the three larger fish that I should add.

bump bump bump it up

I voted for the gourami. And justa side note but there really isn't such a thing as a small angel, just a young one.

go with the gourami as you will possibly have problems with the angelfish as the rasboras become increasingly agressive to a long-finned fish.

Though I would go with a Opaline Gourami if you can find one :)

huh, all this time having rasboras and I never knew they did that. :o

I like the opaline gourami, but I'd only get one if I can them if I can find them in gold. I have this thing about wanting my fishes colors to match.

gouramis almost always swim at the surface too, angels will swim all over.

My gourami (a dwarf) swims all over the tank, he nibbles at the bottom, swims at the mid level and builds a bubble nest at the top. I would say that gouramis (and I have had three and watch them a lot in the fish store) seem to not have a preference as to where they swim. My old one that died recently loved to swim at about 1/4 inch off the bottom and hide in plants.
