For cycling a new tank with fish, I have heard that Zebra Danios and White Clouds are hardy enough to withstand the break in period, but what are some other fish alternatives that can also withstand the break in period?

Possibly other Danios?

Possibly some tetra types?

Possibly a livebearer?

Any info is appreciated......

I would say do a fishless cycle. It is a lot easier that doing a million water changes and a lot better on the fish.

Either do a fishless cycle or get yourself some Bio-Spira. In addition to being much kinder to the fish, you don't get stuck with fish you don't really want or turn out to be incompatible with fish you do really want (I understand zebra danio can be pesky little fin-nippers, for example.)

Blueturq - I really think you already know the answer to your question....

oh no, I don't want to cycle with fish, it's a mean thing to do, I was just wondering which other fish are extremley hardy enough.

Oh, well if it's just a hypothetical question, way back when, years ago when I didn't know any better, I fishy cycled my first tank with a pair of dwarf gourami, who spawned :o about three weeks into the process (I guess I was being pretty diligent about those water changes, huh?) and lived for years afterward.

pristilla tetras other sometime known as x ray tetras get my vote. will survive through high ph 8.5 as well as down below 6.0, often found in stagnant drying pools in the wild and as long as it doesn't dry up completely often survive when other fish trapped with them don't, untill the water rises again to free them. they are also found in brackish conditions at times...

now for a fish thats optimum is soft, neutral to slightly acidic that is a huge range for the adults to survive.

Black skirt Tetras. I started my tanks with them, and still to this day have the same ones!
