Wow, my first post...

Hi there,

I currently have a tank setup that will be vacant for 3 weeks, as I will be away on holiday. There is nothing currently in the tank other than some plants. Are there any type of fish/snail/whatever that can be put in the tank for the 3 week period and be left without food? I am thinking of something that will live off algie and keep the tank clean for the 3 week period. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jones

Amano Shrimp would probably work. If there's not a lot of existing algae, I'd be concerned that a snail would decide to go after the plants (Primarily the larger snails, some of the apple species). Many adult fish would be suitable--something like cherry barbs or mollies that happily eat algaes, but I wouldn't risk it with juveniles.

Ghost shrimp or yamato (amano) shrimp (you say tomayto I say tomawto)would work. Those &&^%$#@ apple snails I would avoid. In my experience, they are little lumber jacks with chain saws as far as plants go......
